We’re all in this together: How Pelican Childcare is sharing kindness in our community

In these times of uncertainty and change, it’s more important than ever to share kindness, connection and support in our communities where we can – and our centres are doing just that.

Whether it’s keeping children safe in centres, supporting families whose life circumstances have changed, or helping those who are keeping children at home, it’s clear wherever you look that love is all you need.

Here are a few stories from our centres that have warmed our hearts. If the world has been getting you down, we hope they warm your heart too.

Pelican Melbourne

Our front door at Pelican centre in the Melbourne suburb of Cairnlea is now a picture of happiness, covered top to bottom with cut-outs of rainbows and teddies, bringing a smile to passers-by and children as they arrive in the morning. It’s all in the spirit of the #rainbowtrail and #bearhunt which has seen these bright little symbols of joy and delight springing up in neighbourhoods all around Australia.

Pelican Heatherton

Heatherton has also joined the rainbow trail with parents also picking up the chalk to share kind and positive messages. The café next door was so delighted with the artistic efforts that they sent a bottle of bubbles to show their support. We’ll leave that for after-hours although the children sent back a big happy thank you card on our behalf.

Pelican Deer Park

At Pelican Deer Park the front rooms are awash with rainbows and teddy bears now hold pride of place in the window. In fact, we might have to rename our centre Bear Park!

Pelican Newbury Boulevard

The thoughtful care packs of essential items including milk, nappies, gloves and sugar, have been warmly received by our Newbury families, especially as some of these products have proven difficult to buy.

It’s truly inspiring to see how our Pelican families, staff and children have instinctively reached out with help and support.

We’re in this together and together we’ll come out the other side, with the benefit of knowing that there is plenty of goodness in the world to share.

What are you doing to spread kindness and show others that you are thinking of them at this time? We’d love to hear your stories.
