“This month the children have been learning about the caterpillar evolving into a butterfly. We have watched multiple documentary’s, read books and have done a lot of research on the caterpillars habitat. The children are confident and involved learners in this topic, they have had so many fantastic ideas such as making a caterpillar enclosure, which we had finished making yesterday. The children have been watching them closely to see when the caterpillars are going to make their cocoon and turn into butterflies. Milla said “We have to let them free when they become butterflies.
A big thank you too one of the families who found 3 caterpillars at home and brought them in for the children to put them in our enclosure. We have also set up art experiences that has food dye that the children drop on the paper towel, fold in half and they become butterflies or roll them up and they become caterpillars.
The children have also been using their imagination skills by using blankets to wrap themselves up in to pretend they are a caterpillar in a cocoon. Kaitlyn said “I’m a caterpillar, I eat lots of food and get a sore tummy, then built a cocoon and sleep for 2 weeks. Then I wake up as a butterfly” Kaitlyn is quoting this from the book “The very hungry caterpillar”
