Age-appropriate outdoor spaces

Children can explore three separate outdoor areas, each equipped with age-appropriate climbing equipment and designed around the needs of a particular age group. These spaces give children room to climb, move and play actively throughout the day.

Home-like indoor environments

Indoors, six rooms provide a warm, home-like environment where children feel comfortable and secure. Each space is filled with open-ended play experiences that give children opportunities to explore, create and learn through play across the day.

Individual Learning Plans

Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families and used to guide learning around each child’s strengths, interests and goals. Educators draw on these plans to shape experiences that suit each child’s needs and stage of development.

Government-approved Kindergarten program

Our Government-approved Kindergarten program is delivered by Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teachers and prepares children for the transition to school. Children build skills and confidence through play-based learning, routines, friendships and growing independence.

Sports and Happy Feet Dance

Children take part in Sports and Happy Feet Dance programs as part of the weekly routine. These sessions give children regular opportunities for movement, coordination, rhythm and self-expression.

Nutritious meals each day

Fresh meals and snacks are prepared daily by our on-site chef, with a rotating seasonal menu covering breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. Menus are planned for variety and balance across the week, with dietary, cultural and individual requirements all catered for.

Family communication and app updates

Families stay informed and involved through clear and consistent communication, including centre newsletters, one-on-one meetings and events throughout the year. "I believe children learn best through play in a safe and secure environment where they feel connected and valued."

My journey in early childhood education began in 1993. With over 30 years of experience across private and larger organisations, I’ve developed a deep passion for providing rich, meaningful experiences for children to grow and develop.

I believe children learn best through play in a safe and secure environment where they feel connected and valued. Building strong, trusting relationships with families and children is essential to my teaching style. I work closely with families to support their goals and ensure children thrive by offering opportunities for social interaction, real-world learning experiences, and a curriculum built around their interests and voices.

At our Cairnlea early education centre, we have a long-standing, family-oriented team of early childhood educators, some of whom have been here for up to 18 years. Many of our team members speak Vietnamese, allowing us to support non-English speaking families throughout their early years’ journey. I’m dedicated to going above and beyond to ensure every child’s success, and I strive to create lasting partnerships with our families, helping them feel heard, supported, and empowered in their parenting journey.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Cairnlea, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Community engagement

We often have visits from local community librarians, local police, and other community services in Cairnlea and the neighbouring suburbs to help familiarise the children with their local community. We also have excursions to our local Library in Cairnlea – Deer Park Library and local Primary School Albanvale Primary School to assist our Kindergarten children with their transition to ‘big school’.

Sustainability

Children develop respect for the environment through gardening, recycling and nature-based learning. Educators also introduce the interconnected aspects of sustainability, including environmental, social and economic, through concepts like fairness, sharing and community.

STEM

Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Sports program

Our sports program is designed to encourage activity and movement, while also building the children’s motor skills. We use obstacle courses and outdoor equipment to challenge the children’s skills and abilities. Educators explore coordination and movement experiences using DIY resources and materials. We also engage children with sports Incursions.

Julie has been very supportive on our family throughout and is always helpful. The communication from the centre is excellent. We are always kept up to date with our child’s development and daily activities through the app and in-person chats. We are thankful to Mohammed, Mansi and Manjit as my son’s educators for always providing information regarding my son’s development. We have seen significant progress in our child, both socially and developmentally, and we thank the team for being part of that, creating a caring, fun and learning space to grow. My son is excited to attend and play with his friends. We are truly happy with our experience at Pelican Cairnlea and couldn’t think of a better kindergarten for my child.

See more I had a very disappointing experience with this childcare centre. My son attended the centre in late 2023, and within just a few weeks, he was moved to a younger class without any notification or explanation to me as a parent. I was very concerned about the quality of care in the new class, as I didn’t observe any meaningful engagement or proper attention given to my child during that time. Communication was poor from the start. There was rarely anyone at the reception to assist parents or answer questions. When I needed a holiday form, I had to ask a teacher, who gave me the form but told me to just leave it on the office table after filling it in—there was no one there to receive it. Later, I decided to withdraw my son from the centre. Again, no one was available at the office, and it took days before I could speak with someone. When I finally did, I asked about the holiday form I had submitted earlier, but I was told it was never received. I had to explain when and where I left it. The staff member then agreed to process it manually. I also raised my concerns about the care my son had received, and she acknowledged the issue. She agreed to make that day (our conversation day) the last day of care as an exception to the two-week notice period and asked me to sign a withdrawal form. Before I left, I confirmed again that this would be our final day and asked her to send me the final payment details, since I had paid fees in advance. She agreed. However, after returning from our holiday, I noticed that my account was still being charged for care—even for dates after my son had stopped attending. I visited the centre again, but again, no one was available at the office. A teacher told me she would leave a note for the staff to call me back, but no one did. Eventually, I received a text message asking me to pay the outstanding balance. I contacted the finance office directly, explained the situation again, and was told they would follow up with the centre. But again, no one got back to me. Weeks later, I received another payment request. Again, I called and got the same response—but still no resolution. Eventually, months later, a third-party collection company contacted me, asking me to pay nearly $1,000. This amount included fees for 1.5 months after the agreed final day, even though my son was no longer attending, and I had enrolled him at another centre. I had to explain the entire situation again to the collection company and requested confirmation from the original centre about my son’s last day of care. After asking for the end-of-care form, I stopped receiving emails from that collection company. But recently—months later—another third-party agency contacted me again demanding payment. This situation has dragged on far too long. I’ve tried multiple times to get the correct final invoice and confirmation from the centre, but there has been zero follow-up or accountability. In Summary: • My child was moved to another class without informing me. • There was consistently no staff at the reception to help. • Important forms were misplaced or ignored. • Communication between staff and departments is extremely poor. • I was charged after withdrawal despite confirming the end date in writing. • No one took ownership of the issue, and I ended up being contacted by debt collectors. This experience has been incredibly stressful and unprofessional. I absolutely do not recommend this childcare centre to any parents looking for a trustworthy and reliable place for their children.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

Pelican Childcare uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, Pelican Childcare is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
