###

12 years with our centre

- Diploma of Children's Services

"The learning opportunities provided in a childcare and early education centre are designed to enhance children's social skills, problem-solving abilities, emotional wellbeing, physical health, language, and cognitive skills."

I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2010 and joined Pelican Childcare Mount Martha in 2014. I have taken on various roles throughout my career, including assistant educator, lead educator, educational leader, assistant centre manager, and now centre manager.
The learning opportunities provided in a childcare and early education centre are designed to enhance children's social skills, problem-solving abilities, emotional wellbeing, physical health, language, and cognitive skills in ways that aren’t always possible at home. As a centre manager, I am dedicated to supporting children on their learning and life journey, ensuring they achieve their full potential during these crucial first five years of life. I believe it is vital to provide a nurturing environment where children can develop positive, trusting relationships with educators.
The educators at Pelican Mount Martha are incredibly passionate about their roles, each bringing unique knowledge and experiences to our centre. We are proud of the enriching environment we offer to our children, families, and the broader community. We strongly emphasise open, respectful communication with our families. We regularly seek their feedback on the centre's day-to-day operations and any changes they would like to see. We also love hosting special events that allow our families to engage and feel a part of our Pelican Mount Martha community.
I look forward to welcoming your family to Pelican Mount Martha early education centre.

## Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Mount Martha, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

#### Sustainability

We are proud to have an award-winning Sustainability Officer who leads a comprehensive sustainability program across the centre. This program includes activities like colour-coded bins to teach children proper waste disposal, caring for animals, and maintaining vegetable gardens, compost bins, and worm farms in each outdoor area. Our educators also take younger children on community walks in prams to collect natural materials and return plastic bags to local shops, fostering a sense of community engagement and environmental responsibility.

#### Community engagement

We host a variety of engaging incursions throughout the year, such as Mini Maestros, Dinosaur Museum, Ocean Exhibit, Healthy Harold, visits from the emergency services, librarians, dentists, and the Henny Penny Hatching Program. Children participate in community walks and visit the local aged care facility, promoting intergenerational connections and a sense of belonging in their community.

#### STEM

Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

#### Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Words cannot express how happy I am with Pelican Childcare. As a mum that had to send their child to childcare while she was quite young, i was super nervous. The team have been absolutely incredible and put my anxious mind at ease. My daughter is always so happy when i pick her up at the end of the day, I get constant updates throughout the day, and she's truly thriving under their guidance. Extremely happy with our choice, and have recommended to my friends and mothers group to attend too!

My daughter started at Pelican when she was 9 months old. She settled in quickly thanks to the wonderful educators! She turns up to daycare with a smile on her face every time and is always happy to separate. The educators post every meal, nappy change and nap via the app so I always know that she is being cared for. They also post daily observations with photos so that I can see what my daughter is getting up to for the day! We are so happy with Pelican and would recommend it to everyone!

My twin boys absolutely love attending Pelican Childcare in Mount Martha, when we pull up in the car park, they get so excited that they can’t wait to get out of the car and get inside to start playing/ learning, which tells me that the educators at Pelican Childcare care, nurture and support the wellbeing of my boys. I’m glad that the educators love and cherish my sons just like their own children which they do for all the children that are in their care during the week. Thanks to the girls who look after my boys who are Tayla, Hayley, Danielle and Taylah you’re all doing an incredible and rewarding job. Keep up the amazing effort you put in to the room, children and the centre your all an asset to Pelican Childcare Mount Martha.

The centre is very inviting, friendly, welcoming and always smell delicious when you walk through the front door. Every educator takes the time to talk to you and make you feel right at home when you’re first dropping off your child/children for their first day or even your last the educators are more than happy to assist you with your enquire or help you with your children so that you’re all getting to your car safely after a long day at work, or at the centre for your child or children. Thanks Pelican Childcare for everything you do. Keep up the fantastic work for the children, the centre is also looking amazing. The Director (Gemma) and 2IC (Taylah B) and all the Educators should be very proud of a wonderful centre that children enjoy coming too each and every day.

We have been attending Pelican Mount Martha for almost 2 years with my now 3 year old, and recently 1 year old. ## Frequently asked questions

##

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. [Click here to book a tour online.](/book-a-tour)

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

##

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

[Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.](/family-information/how-to-enrol)

##

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

[Learn more about our Settling-in Program.](/family-information/settling-in-program)

##

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

##

Pelican Childcare uses Xplor Home as our [family communication app](/family-information/family-communication). It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

##

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, Pelican Childcare is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
